Summer Gardens and Sketchbooking
Swooping in with one heck of an intro! July is cruising to an end and I am preparing to move to coastal Maine next weekend; leaving most of my (already meager) belongings and dear pup Willa with my parents for a month to pick blueberries. It is exciting, especially as I am considering making the move slightly more permanent.
Creative work has had a bit of an uptick the last couple of days, approaching the blank pages of my sketchbook is getting easier again, and I am delightedly throwing myself at writing the script for a podcast in the afternoons when it’s too hot and humid to work outside (I forgot how awful humidity is, WA summers have made me weak).
Mornings are spent sipping coffee and harvesting in the garden, joined by three of my parents cats and WIlla, and more often than not I find myself treated like a moving tree by Ossy.
With this I decided to create a second, more professional Instagram account for all art and podcast things, which can be found @the.stellarium which leaves my normal one @ursus.stellarium for adventures, biking, and other silly bits.
Here you’ll also find periodic updates about a #100daychallenge, where every day I write a haiku. They are all rooted in nature and like a renga, draw some note of inspiration from the prior days poem. I’m not sticking to a 5/7/5 syllable pattern (for a number of reasons), and am embracing any and all metaphors because I really struggle with those in writing and I want to work on it some more.
Ans yes, I did write podcast. While on a walk a curious question popped into my head: what would happen in a mysterious mailbox popped up next to mine? Less than a week later I have five pages of typed notes called “Letters to Georgia” where I have some fun and explore that new little reality. I’m currently typing the second episode (it’s actually pulled up on another tab), and once I get one more script and a chance to edit that my goal is to post every other week.
