Hello there.

Welcome to the blog! Here’s where I share travel and adventure bits, Willa bobs, illustrative work and anything else that floats my boat!

Enjoy your visit!

November is here

November is here

Willa exploring some natural pools in Bear Creek while a friend and I hunted for larch groves

This fall, while being graciously slow and drawn out, is coming to a close. Snow-capped teeth of the Bitterroots grow and melt throughout the week, soon they will creep into the valley, covering us all in fluffy plumes and putting the farm’s tunnels to test protecting greens through the cold.

I have been embracing deep rest, embracing relaxing weekends spent with friends and making the decision to delete all social media from my phone which leaves only access on my ipad and has been a delightful break indeed (although I do miss seeing what my friends are up to).

November is coming and so is rest. While they may never see this, I would like to extend a toast to our part time crew, none of who had any prior farm experience, but still held fast these past few weeks especially helping us power through field clean up and the last of the major winter harvests. If you ever do read this, know how deeply grateful I am that we won’t be spending soaking, freezing days cleaning out caterpillar tunnels in January or February. Hopefully I will be able to send you all postcards from someplace beautiful in New Mexico while on a proper adventure instead.

Did I share this last post? Maybe… maybe not. Either way, a small gift for a friend who is starting her mission trip soon.

However, since I can never seem to totally not work, I have started outlining projects to complete this winter. Some, most notably a baby quilt for a dear friend (dearest Matilda, I am glad you will never remember not having this quilt. You will get it for your first Christmas, I pinky swear) and Watchtower, will be completed much later than anticipated, but they will be finished. There are also episodes of Letters to Georgia getting lined out and eventually I’ll pull my head phones back on to finish editing episode 12, which has been sitting half-finished on my laptop for months now.

The WIlla-bat in our hearts is not the Willa-bat monster of the neighborhood

There are some exciting things in the works, I am starting to tentatively outline a full-blown tarot deck, and am considering livestreaming the whole creation process, or documenting it in some similar way. I’ve loved the idea of making one pretty much since I started reading 12 years ago and finally feel like my painting style is consistent enough to make something great. I also am planning a more regular return to my art Instagram and other somewhat-professional social media accounts, but likely not until I’ve done some serious rebranding and planning. If there’s anything I’ve learned since the start of COVID, is that even though I can crank work out like no one’s business when properly rested and have ideas coming out my ears, I am absolute rubbish at marketing, which needs to change considering someday I would like to switch to part-time farming to avoid physical burnout and injury.

Some of the pools from a recent trip to Goldbug hot springs. It’s a 2.5 hour drive from here, then another hour or so hike but so worth it for the soaking and the views.

But that’s not this week’s (month’s??) goal. This week, I’m resting. Focusing on high-quality sleep, restarting my meditation practice, making time to stretch every day. November is here and that means the worst is behind us (no, I’m not looking at those three beds left of winter carrots that need to be harvested right now thank you very much). So this might be the last big (ish) post for awhile. I’ll share when I’m back on Insta or start any other social media venture. We’ll see, I hope you can rest up too, Sabrina

Some late, rot bound salanova Zukes here did not help me plant. This was almost a month ago now, and they are mostly starting to recover, if you ignore the powdery mildew.
